Flying Gannets at the Noup of Noss
Gannet Studies, Noss, Jun 2007
Spent three hours attempting to sketch Gannets in a flying gale. Huddling behind a low bit of dyke overlooking the Noup, I struggled to keep paper on the board and stop my hat and gloves blowing away. Also struggled trying to work out some of the foreshortening and angles that the gannets were showing as they glided past within a few feet of me. Lots of Fulmars and Puffins taking advantage of the updraughts as well.
It is always an effort drawing at the Noup, having to carry all the drawing gear and loads of warm clothes up the hill but always well worth the effort to see the cliffs and the thousands of seabirds.
