All my work is based upon a vast amount of drawing and painting from direct observation. These life drawings are exercises and practice in an effort to understand structure form and movement. They are very often a mess and are really a means to provide material and ideas which are developed later in the printmaking process. I spend a disproportionate amount of time sketching compared to time in the studio as I believe that direct observation and drawing practice is fundamental to producing any subsequent work. Examples of these field sketches can be seen in the gallery section.
